The Afrikan American Farewell Celebration - open to all - is a powerful and affirming space for Black students to showcase their achievements and celebrate their journey. This event features a full, traditional commencement ceremony, with the main highlight being the moment each graduate walks across the stage to receive their degree and be personally recognized.

This celebration honors the hard work, perseverance, and determination it takes to complete a college degree — especially within the context of a predominantly white institution. It provides an essential space for graduates to be individually celebrated among their community, acknowledging both personal and collective success.

The 2026 celebration - sponsored in part by the Hale Black Cultural Center - will be held on Saturday, May 9th at 3:30PM in the Archie Griffin Ballroom of the Ohio Union.
